Mathematics and Further Mathematics
Mathematics is a creative and highly interconnected discipline that has been developed over centuries, providing the solution to some of history’s most intriguing problems. It is essential to everyday life, critical to science, technology and engineering, and necessary for financial literacy and most forms of employment.
Course Description.
Students need to be able to move fluently between each distinct topic, making rich connections across mathematical ideas to develop fluency, mathematical reasoning and competence in solving increasingly sophisticated problems. Students need to become adept in the key skills of mathematics through varied and frequent practice, show curiosity to reason mathematically and show persistence to solve problems by applying these skills.
Our Sixth Form has students from across Birmingham and with a vast array of prior mathematical teaching and experience. The first term focuses on bridging the gap between GCSE studies and A level. Our A level Mathematics is the two-year linear qualification, with final exams taken at the end of Year 13.
