Welcome to our School

The University of Birmingham School opened two years ago as a natural progression to the environment of the University of Birmingham; a world class university that was founded over one hundred years ago to advance education in the city of Birmingham, one of the fastest growing and vibrant cities in western Europe.

We represent our city through our admissions system because we have one of the most diverse cohorts in the whole of the country and we are proud to do so. This is a school for everyone, where everyone counts.

Our core purpose is to develop the character of our children – their personal qualities, or virtues – so they can go on and become happy, engaged, fulfilled citizens. We want to develop their skills so they not only want to help people, but they know how to help people.

Character is about doing the right thing at the right time for the right reason; sometimes the children say it’s what you do when no one is looking.

This isn’t easy, but our community is dedicated to developing our character because we think that it is just as important as academic success. To be successful, our school believes that we will only achieve that if our children are flourishing, our staff are flourishing and that we have an impact on society, whether that’s in Selly Oak, Birmingham, the country or internationally.

We’re all proud to be here and I hope you will want to come and join us.
