Physics
Physics
We are passionate about our subject, and enjoy discussing the wonders of the universe, atom and everything in between, alongside the amazing technological inventions we rely on in daily life.

Course Description.
At University of Birmingham School, Physics is taught exclusively by well-qualified Physics specialists, separate from Chemistry and Biology. The Physics Department is exceptionally well-resourced, facilitating our strong emphasis on hands-on practical activities.
In the Sixth Form, Physics is a highly popular subject with multiple classes and a significant proportion of students going on to study Physics or Engineering at University. We follow the AQA A Level course, including AQA’s “Turning Points in Physics” option topic, and each student has two subject specialist teachers who share the teaching. Lessons include a range of imaginative and exciting hands-on practical work, alongside more traditional learning activities. All students will compete in the Physics Olympiad in Year 12. This is a fantastic opportunity to develop and test subject knowledge as part of a national competition. The department also organises an optional trip to CERN in Geneva during which students have the opportunity to discover the intricacies of physics research abroad at the Large Hadron Collider.
