Course Description.
In Key stage 3 Art lessons at UOBS, the focus is on building a foundation of visual literacy, the ability to use artists as inspiration, the development of technical skills and the enjoyment of the subject! Art lessons are a safe environment for students to develop their whole self with an atmosphere which allows for freedom in experimentation and failure.
Core skills in Drawing, Painting, Mixed Media and Ceramics are explored alongside the nurturing of creativity and the ability to work individually or as part of a group.
Students take responsibility for running much of the lesson, with all students taking on a role of responsibility within the class, from equipment monitors to students in charge of nominating others for excellent determination in lesson.
In Year 8, the focus on building up an artistic skillset is complemented by a focus on the ideas and concepts behind artwork. Drawing, printmaking, stencilling, penwork, clay and paint are all used.
As in year 7, students take responsibility for running much of the lesson, with all students taking on a role of responsibility within the class, from equipment monitors to students in charge of nominating others for excellent determination in lesson.
In Year 9, we explore The human condition. We structure the lessons in a similar way to that of a GCSE or ALevel project, so that students go through the process of making idea sheets, observational studies, artist studies and then personal outcomes. The scale is increased from A4 sketchpads to A2 portfolios and although there is more guidance given initially, by term 3 outcomes will begin to show more independence.
