We were delighted to host our inaugural Sustainability Symposium, an event that brought together pupils and staff from several schools across the city. A day dedicated to collaboration and action, and focused on sustainability and environmental stewardship. Pupils delivered presentations based on topics they researched themselves, each highlighting issues and solutions to help:
- Fast Fashion: exploring the environmental impact of the fashion industry and how our sustainable practices can help.
- The World Cup and Climate Change: how do global events, like the World Cup, affect our climate and what can be done to mitigate their carbon footprint?
- The AI Energy Trap: examining the energy consumption of artificial intelligence technologies and the need for more sustainable approaches.
- The Importance of Hedgerows: highlighting the ecological significance of hedgerows and the role they play in biodiversity conservation.
All pupils also took part in climate change and sustainability workshops throughout the day with special guests from the University of Birmingham, Veolia UK, and Wharton Natural Infrastructure Consultants. Each speaker brought a wealth of knowledge and inspired the pupils with their expertise and commitment to sustainability.
