University of Birmingham School pupils celebrate first GCSE results

University of Birmingham School’s first cohort to complete their GCSEs are celebrating their results today. These are the first set of GCSE results at the school which opened its doors to its founding set of pupils in 2015, who are now progressing to pathways into A level, training, apprenticeship or employment.

The GCSE results mark a key milestone in the evolution of the school, mirroring the positive OFSTED inspection in 2018, in which it was rated as ‘Good’ in all areas, affirming the success of its distinctive approach to teaching.

The results are a reflection of the hard work and effort from pupils and staff over the past five years. The pupils’ accomplishments are not only a measure of their academic success, but also their character virtues, which allow them to reach their personal bests and achieve individual excellence.

Mr Colin Townsend, University of Birmingham School’s Principal, commended pupils on their individual and varied successes. “No other cohort of pupils has been asked to complete their schooling in the context of a global pandemic. This has presented extraordinary challenges, and we are extremely proud of the fortitude shown by our young people. I am also very grateful for the ocean-deep support and encouragement provided by our families and our staff throughout their studies, but especially the more recent exceptional months. It is heartening to recognise so many cases of individual pupil excellence leading to successful progression. On behalf of everyone at the School, warmest congratulations, and wishing every pupil happiness in their next steps.”

A few individuals who really shone this year include:

  • Malaika – Studying Biology, Chemistry & Geography at UoBS Sixth Form.
  • Dan – Studying English Literature, Religious Studies, Music at UoBS Sixth Form.
  • Simran – Studying Music, Biology, Chemistry at UoBS Sixth Form.
  • Glyn – Joining the British Army.
